< p > it is reported that Asian Americans have been rising rapidly in the fashion industry recently. Many of them have milestone significance. For example, last year, Alexander Wang was appointed creative director of Paris family. In 2009, Wu Jigang (Jason Wu) designed Michel Obama's first inauguration dress (this year also designed her second inauguration dress).

Before that, there have been several pioneers since 1980s, such as Wang Weiwei (Very Wang) and Anna Sui (Anna Sui).

The two fashion exhibitions held at Museum of Chinese in America (P) recently focused on their rapid rise.

One shows the impact of Western clothing on Shanghai fashion from 1910 to 1950. At that time, the designer's name was not known in China. The other one focused on the designers of the past 30 years. They are now star designers in the United States and are becoming more and more famous in China.

If we take into account the theme of the museum's fashion show, we will have a better understanding of the change in perspective.

The exhibition explored the history of Chinese laundries. It was organized in 1983 by the "New York Chinatown historical project agency".

< p > "now when you think of the Chinese Americans in the fashion world, you are not thinking about the laundry workers," said Helen Koh, the executive director of the museum. "You think of fashion designers," Helen said.

< p > the exhibition is called "front row: Front Row: Chinese American Designers", and the curator is Marie Ping (Mary Ping), who selects the most recent iconic works of her colleagues.

In Wang Weiwei's works, she chose a red wedding dress because red is very exciting from the perspective of marriage, and can resonate from a Chinese perspective.

In Wu Jigang's work, she chose a navy blue strap dress from his series inspired by Helmut Newton (Helmut Newton).

In the works of "Opening Ceremony" brand designer Humberto Leung (Humberto Leon) and Carol Lee (Carol Lim), she chose their works with Robert Clergerie and Timberland brands.

< p > Mary Bing pointed out that the emphasis is not on showing similarities between Asian American designers but in their differences.
